PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
The Leader and People pray responsively
To you, O Lord, we offer our hope and our prayers
For our nation and for our world; that those who are responsible for making decisions
will govern with wisdom and compassion;
For all who are hungry, fearful, and those living without hope.
For our economy, for our local businesses and the work of our own households;
For all our labor, things done and left undone.
For those who need healing and those who heal;
That your Holy Spirit would guide and transform not only our body,
but also our mind and soul.
In a world so often divided by nations, races, creeds, gender, languages, age, and culture
Fill us with your Holy Spirit, O Lord, that we might see, speak, and know
new perspectives of love and compassion.
For the world in which we live and move and have our being;
That the eyes of gratitude would always guide us.
For the fears and anxieties in our life and in our communities;
That we might have the courage to seek help when needed.
For the homeless, those in fear of losing their home and those struggling to stay in their home;
And for those working to meet their needs.
For the Christian Church in all her various forms and fashions;
That we might find unity in all things essential and respect in everything else.
For all our needs, concerns, and longings.
Silence (The People may add their own petitions)
Hear us, Lord;
For your mercy is great.
Give us strength, O Lord, to be bold enough to be thankful
The People may add their own thanksgivings
We will worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.
We pray for all who have died, known and loved by us,
and those whose lives have made our life possible and, yet, unknown to us:
that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom.
The People may add their own petitions
Lord, let your loving‑kindness be upon them;
Who put their trust in you.
We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.
Leader and People
Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father;
Have compassion upon us, most compassionate Mother.
Forgive us for what we have done and regret deeply,
forgive us those things we have done that have hurt others and of which we are unaware,
forgive us for what we have thought to be good and right but truly has been misled.
And in your forgiveness may we find the will to forgive others.
Hold us in the power of your Spirit,
Embrace those whose lives we cherish in our hearts,
And remind us always, in the sacredness of our memory, of the true treasure that is life;
And this we pray, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
